    🧭Getting HereπŸ—ΊοΈ

How to Reach Udaipur β€” by Road, by Train and by Air

Railway station 4 km, airport 25 km, Fateh Sagar Lake 200 m β€” with a map and a route planner

Where Hotel Rani Palace is, and how far everything is

We are at 48-B, Ambamata Scheme, on the Ambamata side of Fateh Sagar Lake β€” 200 m from the lake, 4 km from the railway station and the central bus stand, and 25 km from Maharana Pratap Airport at Dabok.

Pick any place below to see it on the map, or use the route planner to get directions between any two of them. Every distance is written out next to its name, so you never have to load the map to get the answer.

What each of these places is actually like, and what it costs to get in, is on Explore Udaipur.

Arriving by road, and where you will park

Most of our guests drive in, and almost all of them arrive with the same two questions. The first is where the car goes. Udaipur is a city built long before cars, and the closer a hotel sits to the old town the smaller its answer to that question gets β€” a great many properties behind City Palace simply do not have one.

We are on the Ambamata side, by Fateh Sagar Lake, and the approach is a normal city road rather than a lane you have to reverse out of. If you are coming down the highway from Gujarat you will be on the Udaipur side of the city before you need to think about navigation at all, and the last stretch is straightforward.

The second question is the driver, and the answer is below. Neither answer costs you anything, and both of them are the reason a road-trip family tends to end up here rather than three hundred metres from the palace gate.

Where you park, and where your driver sleeps

Parking is free. It is outside parking, alongside the property, and there is no charge for it β€” not for a night, not for a week, not for the whole of your stay.

Your driver stays free too. Drivers stay in a dormitory with a separate toilet and bathroom, at no charge, for the whole of your stay. Driver meals are not included β€” that is the one part of it you pay for, and we would rather you knew that here than at the desk. Tell us when you book that a driver is travelling with you, and for how many nights.

Arriving at Udaipur railway station (4 km)

Udaipur City is the station every long-distance train terminates at, and it sits 4 km from us. That is a short ride and it is not a walk; we are not going to pretend otherwise, and if a hotel within walking distance of the platform is what you need then a hotel in the station area is the honest recommendation.

What 4 km buys you instead is the lake at the other end of it. Fateh Sagar is 200 m from the front door, a five-minute walk, and the streets here are quieter than the ones around the station at six in the morning.

Overnight trains into Udaipur land early, and a lot of them land very early. Reception is staffed 24 hours, so arriving before dawn is not a problem for getting inside, having your luggage taken and sitting down. Check-in itself is 12:00 PM. Whether a room can be handed over before then depends on what went out that morning, and it may carry a charge β€” the position on that has not changed and it is set out on the frequently asked questions page rather than restated here as a promise.

Arriving at Maharana Pratap Airport (25 km)

The airport is at Dabok, 25 km away, and it is by a wide margin the longest leg of any arrival. It is on the far side of the city from us, so a flight landing in the evening means crossing Udaipur rather than skirting it.

There is a travel desk at reception. Send us your flight details in advance and we will tell you what can be arranged for the run in and what it will cost. We are not going to publish a fare on this page, because it is not a fare we set and quoting one we have not checked is exactly the kind of number this site tries not to print.

Arriving at the bus stand (4 km)

Udaipur central bus stand is the same 4 km as the railway station and on the same side of the city, so everything above applies to a bus arrival too. Overnight coaches from Gujarat and from Jaipur tend to arrive early, and again the useful fact is that reception never closes.

    Driving in from another city

Two of the roads people ask about most have a page of their own, with the measured distance, an honest time band rather than a point estimate, and what happens to the car and the driver at the end of it. If you are coming Ahmedabad to Udaipur, that is the short one and the one most people do in a morning. If you are coming Surat to Udaipur, it is a long day and the arrival time is the thing worth planning around.

For every other origin, ring us. Guests drive in from Vadodara, Rajkot, Indore and Delhi every week and reception can tell you what they actually report for the run and what time you should leave to arrive before dark. We would rather give you that on the phone than publish a figure for a road we have not measured.

When to come at all is a separate question, and it has its own answer in our guide to visiting Udaipur through the year.

What is walkable from the hotel

One thing, and we are going to be strict about it. Fateh Sagar Lake is 200 m from the door, a five-minute walk, and that is the only walk on this page. Everything else in the list below is a drive.

    Distances from the front door

    • Udaipur City Railway Station4 km
    • Udaipur Central Bus Stand4 km
    • Maharana Pratap Airport (Dabok)25 km
    • Fateh Sagar Lake200 m β€” a five-minute walk
    • Lake Pichola1 km
    • City Palace1.5 km
    • Jagdish Temple1.5 km
    • Bagore Ki Haveli1.5 km
    • Saheliyon Ki Bari3 km
    • Dudh Talai3 km
    • Monsoon Palace7 km

A kilometre and a half sounds walkable written down and is a different proposition in the middle of a hot afternoon, with traffic, on roads that were not laid out for pedestrians. Take an auto. The two places on that list with a page of their own are City Palace and Saheliyon Ki Bari.

5% GST is added to the room rate β€” that is β‚Ή99.95 on a β‚Ή1,999 room, so β‚Ή2,098.95 for the night. We would rather you saw that here than at the desk.

Rooms start at β‚Ή1,999 before GST, the kitchen is pure vegetarian, and there is no alcohol on the property β€” worth knowing before you arrive rather than after. If you want the address, the map and the phone in one place, that is our contact page, or call +91 94143 85587 at any hour.

    Frequently asked questions
How far is the hotel from Udaipur railway station?
4 km. The bus stand is the same 4 km, on the same side of the city, and Maharana Pratap Airport at Dabok is 25 km.
My train gets in at four in the morning. Is that a problem?
Not for getting through the door β€” reception is staffed 24 hours and room service runs 24 hours. Check-in itself is 12:00 PM. Whether a room can be given to you earlier than that depends on availability and may carry a charge; the honest answer for your dates is a phone call, not a promise on a web page.
Is there somewhere to leave a car?
Yes, free outside parking alongside the property, for the whole of your stay, at no charge. It is one of the real advantages of being on this side of the city rather than in the lanes of the old town.
    Where does our driver sleep?
In a dormitory with a separate toilet and bathroom, free of charge for the whole of your stay. Driver meals are not included.
Can you arrange a car from the airport or the station?
There is a travel desk at reception. Send us your arrival details ahead of time and we will tell you what can be arranged and what it will cost, rather than quoting you a fare here that we have not checked.
What is actually walkable from the hotel?
Fateh Sagar Lake, and honestly not much else. It is 200 m away, a five-minute walk. Everything else on our list is a drive, and we are not going to describe a kilometre and a half through Udaipur traffic as a stroll.
What time can we check in and check out?
    Check-in 12:00 PM, check-out 10:00 AM.
