200 m from Fateh Sagar Lake

Hotel Rani Palace is 200 m from Fateh Sagar Lake. That is the strongest true thing we can say about where we are, so it is the first thing on this page. It is a short walk from the front door — no auto, no negotiation, no parking the car again at the other end.

For a lot of guests that is the whole reason to stay on this side of Udaipur. The lake becomes part of an ordinary morning or evening instead of an outing you have to plan, and you can come back to the hotel whenever you like without thinking about traffic.

It is the only place in Udaipur we describe as walkable from the hotel. Everything else worth seeing is a short ride, and the list below gives the distance to each of them from our own front door rather than from the middle of the city. Those are the same figures we publish on every page of this site, because they all come from one place.

Being on the Fateh Sagar side of the city also means being outside the old town. That is a trade, and we set it out properly on the hotels near City Palace page: City Palace is 1.5 km from here, and so is Jagdish Temple.

The rooms do not have a lake view. The rooftop does.

Plenty of people who search for a hotel near Fateh Sagar are really hoping for a window onto the water. We do not have that, and none of our rooms looks at the lake. We would much rather say so here, in a heading, than have you discover it when you open the curtains on your first morning.

Here is what the rooms do look onto. Standard rooms have a balcony. Deluxe rooms look onto the garden. Jharokha rooms have a traditional jharokha balcony with a city view. All 19 rooms are air-conditioned and every one has a king bed, in all three categories.

The rooftop is where to go for the view of Fateh Sagar. It is open to guests staying with us, so it is part of your stay rather than something you have to book separately.

The lake view at this hotel is from the rooftop, and the rooftop is open to guests staying with us. So the honest version of the offer is a room without a view, a lake 200 m away on foot, and a roof you can go up to when you want to see it. If a lake-view room is the whole point of your trip, that is a different hotel and a different budget, and you should book it. If being close to the lake is the point, this is a good place to be. Coming back from the lake: food and the evening

Because the lake is so close, a lot of our guests spend the late afternoon there and come back for dinner. The restaurant runs 7:00 AM - 10:30 PM, with dinner served from 6:00 PM, and the indoor dining hall seats 25 guests. It is a small room, and that is the accurate description of it.

Room service runs round the clock. The full menu stops at 10:30 PM, so if you are out late, order before then for the full choice. The kitchen is 100% pure vegetarian, and there is no alcohol anywhere on the property — not in the restaurant, not on the rooftop, not in the rooms. The rest of Udaipur from the lake side

Lake Pichola is 1 km away. The old-city cluster — City Palace, Jagdish Temple and Bagore Ki Haveli — is 1.5 km, all three about the same distance, so one trip covers them. On the other side, Saheliyon Ki Bari is 3 km; our hotels near Saheliyon Ki Bari page covers that end of the city.

Getting here
